Arvind Kejriwal Accepts Delhi Poll Defeat, Pledges Constructive Opposition

AAP Faces Setback in Delhi Elections, BJP Emerges Victorious

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) faced a significant defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing a commanding victory. Arvind Kejriwal, AAP’s national convenor and former Chief Minister of Delhi, gracefully accepted the people’s mandate and assured that his party would continue serving as a constructive opposition.

Kejriwal’s Response to the Election Outcome

Addressing the media in Hindi, Kejriwal acknowledged the public’s decision and congratulated the BJP on its success. He emphasized that AAP had always worked for the welfare of the people and that the party was never driven by power but by its commitment to public service.

“The results of the Delhi elections have been declared today, and we accept the people’s verdict. The decision of the public is supreme. I congratulate the BJP on its victory and hope that they fulfill the aspirations of the people who have given them this mandate,” Kejriwal stated.

AAP’s Contributions and Commitment to Public Service

Kejriwal highlighted AAP’s contributions in the last decade, particularly in education, healthcare, electricity, and water supply. He reassured Delhi residents that despite the electoral loss, AAP would remain dedicated to social work and governance improvements.

“We have worked extensively to improve infrastructure, schools, and hospitals. Now, as a responsible opposition, we will ensure that the interests of Delhiites are safeguarded,” he added. Kejriwal also appreciated the dedication of AAP workers, acknowledging their hard work and sacrifices during the election campaign.

Key Defeats and Major Electoral Shifts

The election results brought a significant setback for AAP, as Kejriwal himself lost the New Delhi constituency to BJP’s Parvesh Verma by a margin of over 4,000 votes. This marked a surprising reversal of fortunes for Kejriwal, who had previously defeated three-time Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in the same constituency in 2013.

Adding to AAP’s woes, senior leaders Manish Sisodia and Saurabh Bhardwaj also faced defeats in their respective constituencies of Jangpura and Greater Kailash. However, Atishi, the party’s current Chief Minister, managed to secure a victory from Kalkaji against BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri.

BJP’s Historic Comeback After 27 Years

For the BJP, the Delhi win was a landmark victory, marking its return to power in the capital after 27 years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who actively campaigned for the party, described the result as a triumph of development and governance.

“I bow to my dear sisters and brothers of Delhi for this resounding and historic mandate to the BJP. We are humbled and honored to receive these blessings,” PM Modi wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

He further assured the public that his government would prioritize Delhi’s development and ensure its active role in making India a developed nation.

“It is our guarantee that we will leave no stone unturned in developing Delhi, improving the overall quality of life, and ensuring that Delhi plays a crucial role in building a Viksit Bharat (developed India),” he added.
